In Totara Whanau I have been learning about the Amazon Rainforest. Something we had to do with the Amazon Rainforest was to create a artefact. In this image this is my artefact. In my artefact I used cardboard tubes to make my tree's. I used grass to stick on the bottom of the base of the cardboard box and last I used clear blue cellophane for the river. I am proud of my artefact because I put all my hard work in the cardboard trees and all the other things. Something that challenges me was, trying to put the cardboard tubes on. Next time I should fill in all the gaps on the grass and tree's. In my artefact I used my perseverance muscle so I can keep stretching my art  and creating muscles so I can get better and better. Before I started my artefact I had to do some notes. I used my literacy book to put all my information about the rainforest. I used normal text books and used all the key words and then put them into my own sentences.

This week Totara Hub have been learning about the Olympics.
We had to choose a athlete that inspired us so I chose Shakira Baker.
I chose Shakira Baker because she inspired me with all her rugby talent.
In class we were asked to research our athlete and take note's. I found this a bit of a struggle. 
It was a challenge for me taking notes because it was hard finding key words and putting the sentences in to my own words. Something that challenged me was taking the notes because there was a lot of information to be presented in my slide about Shakira.

Funfetti Cupcakes:

I did this piece of writing because I knew how to make these cupcakes and I want to teach other people how to make them too. When I was making the cupcakes it was so complicated because I got frustrated with what time and when to put the right ingredients in. What I enjoyed about this piece of writing I added a lot of vocabulary in it. I used persuasiveness (perseverance) for this piece of writing because when I loose considerations (concentrations) I get all frustrated for what I am going to write and I feel like I want to give. When I go back to this writing I could change a little bit more interesting WOW factor in it. How could I do it, to make it more interesting about the actual learning.

How to make colourful funfetti cupcakes
One day it was a rainy day at home and I wanted to go and buy some cupcakes but instead mum said to make some so I grabbed the cookbook and started to read.

Cook - 25-30 minutes
  • 1 ⅔ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ unsalted butter, soft
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 whole egg
  • ¼ cup greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup rainbow sprinkles
Butter Cream
  • ¾ unsalted butter, soft
  • 3 cups sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • Beforehand all the things your are wanting to do that include your cooking is to preheat your oven to 350 degrees and set out 12 cupcake liners in a tin and set aside.

  • Combine in a medium bowl mix your flour, baking soda, baking powder and a ½ teaspoon of salt and mix carefully and constantly until it is all combined.
  • Frequently set your dry ingredients aside and grab a small mixing bowl that your butter can fit in. Gently add your butter in your mixing bowl and put it in a microwave and leave it in there for 20 seconds or until it is melted.
  • Add in your butter into your granulated sugar slowly and beat with a hand mixer or a wooden spoon until it looks fluffy and pale.
  • Add your 1 whole egg, your greek yogurt, your milk and your 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and mix it until it is well combined.
  • Gather your dry and wet ingredients and gently pour your wet ingredients into your dry ingredients and mix it all together when it looks pale and fluffy and well combined
  • Look at your cupcake mixture it should look all pale and fluffy and well combined you want to grab your sprinkles and slowly pour them in and combine the mixture all together.
  • Grab your cupcake mixture and your 12 cupcake liners in each cupcake liner put about ½ cup in each one.
  • Throughout the time you are letting your cupcakes cool down you want to make your buttercream.
  • Combine your first ingredient in your small bowl is your  ¾ cups of unsalted butter in a microwave for about 20 seconds and make sure you want to keep an eye on them so it does not bubble and explode everywhere.
  • Pour the melted butter slowly into a mixing bowl that has your 3 cups of sugar, your heavy cream been beaten by an electric whisk so it is fluffy and your 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
  • Check that your buttercream is light and fluffy and often minutes later your cupcakes should have been cooled down completely, so now you want to gather a piping bag with you and empty the whole bowl of icing into that piping bag.
  • Ice all your cupcakes with a blob in the middle.
  • Naturally get a cup of any rainbow coloured sprinkles and dip your cupcake into it and for the big blob of icing in the middle that will help not spreading all your icing around it and instead it will just spread out by itself from the sprinkles.
  • Presenting your cupcakes they should look amazing and inside your cupcake will taste fluffy and  will be bright and colourful.

Everyone in Totara Whanau has been learning about the Maori New Year of Matariki.
Matariki is about joining together and sharing and learning new cultures.
Matariki actually means the eye of god.
Matariki is the Maori name for the seven sisters also named as the pleiades.

On the Matariki day the whole Totara Whanau got to chose what workshops they wanted to achieve themselves. For example I chose hand sewing. At the workshop we got told what we had to do step by step.When I did this sewing workshop I was felling nervous because I had never done hand sewing before.
What I enjoyed in doing this hand sewing was that I got to learn a lot of new skills about it. Next time what I could achieve on it is to not make the thread to big or to small and just make it the same length.

Bread experience:

Procedural writing
WALT write instructions for the reader to follow
Success Criteria
Give an explanation about how the instructions will help you (introduction)

Order instructions so they are easy to follow

I was at my Grandma’s house and it was a rainy day. We thought of making a egg on toast but we realized that we didn’t have any bread. So we decided to make some.
1. Yeast is the only ingredient in bread that makes it rise.
2. The texture of the bread feels really gooey when you knead it.
3. Flour is basically the only ingredient in making bread.
Have you ever made textured homemade bread?
  • 1 ⅓ Cups Flour
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Heaped tsp Yeast
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • ½ cup Warm Water ( NOT HOT )
  • Combine the white sugar, flour and the yeast thoroughly together in a mixing bowl.
  • Tip in warm, NOT HOT, water carefully then blend olive oil and pound them together.
  • Fold the wet and dry mixture constantly for 3 - 5 minutes until it looks gooey and doughy.
  • Gathering the mixture together you want to grab a medium size piece of baking paper and then knead it for 1 minute and 30 seconds ( only a few folds of the dough.)
  • With your dough looking well combined and all ready to let it rise you want to grab a  greased baking paper sheet with cooking spray on it, and then finish up doing your dough with the shape you want it to be.
  • Place a towel over the dough and let it rise for 25 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until the bread is golden.

I did this piece of writing because some of Totara Whanau have been learning about the science experience of making home-made bread. Some people learnt about what makes wheat rise and that is what I learnt. The ingredient that makes the dough rise is yeast because the carbon dioxide is released from the dough which is making it rise. Next time I would make sure to not put too much of one ingredient. The learning muscle that I was stretching was my perseverance muscle because I did not give up when the dough was to sticky or runny. What I enjoyed about this experience was getting to know all the weird and fun facts about bread for example, getting to know that yeast makes the dough rise.

Tooth writing

Holding in the pain from my tooth I feel a tear coming down from the left side of my cheek. Squealing with my mouth open I hear the deafening noise and also the CRUNCH. I hold in the scream waiting for my tooth to be jammed out. As Dad gets ready to slam the door I pound up and down not wanting for this tooth to come out yet.Now saying to dad I don’t want this tooth to come out I say
“I should just leave it in there so the painful scream can not come out” Just saying that so Dad could notice that it can not be pulled out this one fine day, not going to be a fine day now though. As he pulls the string of the door handle I feel blood going into my mouth dripping on my tongue I gulp the blood as fast as I could and said BLAH. Putting my finger in the tooth I feel a piece of gum hanging out from the tooth. I Scampered to dad saying “ Dad I think this tooth needs to come out now from about 10 minutes later. Getting ready to slam the door I stiffen my self and again holding the scream in my my mouth. SLAM I felt the tooth pull out like a crackling chip doing its big CRUNCH. Also the  scream comes out. As Dad was blocking his ears from my immense thunderous scream  the tooth came out.  Tasting the sense of dripping coral red blood.15 minutes later from the tooth being pulled out I still feel the irritation pain. Holding the tooth in my hand I enter into the bathroom looking in the mirror I have a blurb about what I will get from the tooth fairy. Imagining me getting $50.00 or even $1000.00. Me making up that the tooth fairy is really rich that I am wanting to get $1000.00 and for the tooth fairy leaving me a note saying ( don’t be a spoiled brat. ) Getting ready to pound down on to my bed I put the tooth in a tooth box for the night getting ready for the tooth fairy to come. Turning the lights of I stare at the the tooth box waiting for the tooth fairy to grab my tooth and put the $1000.00 in my tooth box. 11:30pm in the night still waiting for the tooth fairy to come. As I hit the yawn I slowly close my eyes finally ready to go to bed.

Opening my eyes at 10:30 am I realized that I saw my tooth box on the table so I grabbed the tooth box and pulled the lid seeing if my $1000.00 is here. Pulling the top of the lid I peer into the tooth box seeing how much money there is. As the feel of shaking and I do not know why my hand or body is shaking but I grab the money out feeling coins saying to myself “ I know I didn't get the $1000.00 I expected.” Picking out the coins from the tooth box I count the money and only counted $7.50. I say “ the tooth fairy is not that rich I suppose “ thinking that the tooth fairy is my mother so she could give me how much money I want but I am not that much of a spoiled brat. Still holding the money in my hand as it is 12:15pm. PAST LUNCH  even I say to myself. As I am looking at the money not wanting money any more thinking of getting a IPad or even a bike or phone. As I was dealing with the money not the bike or the phone and even the I Pad I say to Mum “ mum can we go up to town today day or tomorrow “ she replied sure.” As it was the next day at the time of 8:47am in the morning I bolt to mum just to say “ can we go to town.”As it was 11:15am I pounced into the car so we could hit the road. As we almost got to Hastings I was wondering what I should get. I had a blurb of thinking that I should of got my bike or i pad or iPhone that the tooth fairy should of got me but she didn't but then I just realized that I only have $7.50 and I thought I had my $1000.00 but I didn't. Walking into the store Kmart I sprint to the stationary section thinking that I am in a shopping spree competition, but as I gram the money out of my wallet always forgetting that I only have $7.50 what a good brain my brain is working for today. Still looking at all the stationery stuff I see a little minnie fake shopping trolley which was $6.00. I grab the fake trolley and I just remembered I had $1.50 left. Turning my head around I see a big purple herendise rubber which was only a $1.40 so I grabbed it and bolted to the counter to shopping spree stuff payed I say. From about 2 minutes in the store I jumped back into the car and then mum said are we ready to roll and I said “ YES.” Driving back home from Hastings I start to close my eyes and as I hit the comfy car seat bed. Opening my eyes I end with a bong on my bed. Pulling my arm over my body I feel a plastic. As I fell my eyelashes stuck together when I was opening my eyes from my not so long of a sleep I forgot all about that shopping. Remembering what I got I pull open the plastic bag from my fake shopping spree I pull open the stationary that I got from kmart and starting to remember what I did today.Entering into the living room I bring my stationary out with me. Getting ready to lie on the couch dropping my stationary on the floor. I pounce down hitting my chin thinking OH OH imagining another tooth has came OUT ?  

I did this piece of writing because it was one of our learning experiences and I wanted to write about the experience on the day my tooth came out. What I could improve from this piece of writing is to put more wow factor about the parts when the tooth is falling out. What I enjoyed in this piece of writing was explaining about how it happened. The piece in this writing I could think about more is to try and not rush my vocabulary in it and make it my personal best and use a thesaurus.

I am poem

I did this I am poem because it all inspires me for what I love to do. The thing I could work on is to put a little bit more information in it and so it makes (sense). The thing I enjoyed about this I am poem is that all the writing in it is all about what I enjoy. What I can improve in this poem is to put more interesting vocabulary in it.
